Israel destroys over 1,000 olive trees in Hebron village

BETHLEHEM, 23 Apr 2013 - Israeli forces destroyed over 1,300 olive trees in the south Hebron hills on Tuesday.

Israeli soldiers accompanied officials from Israel's civil administration as demolition crews uprooted hundreds of olive trees in the village of Susiya, Ma'an's reporter said.

According to B'Tselem, there are 26 outstanding Israeli demolition orders in the village.


Issawi signs agreement with Israel, ends hunger strike

RAMALLAH, 23 Apr 2013 - Long term hunger striker Samer Issawi ended his protest action on Tuesday after signing an agreement with Israel which guarantees his release, his lawyer Jawad Bolous said.

The deal will see Issawi released to his hometown of Jerusalem after serving eight months in jail, after 266 days of refusing food in protest against his rearrest by Israeli forces.

The agreement was signed at Kaplan Medical Center in Israel where Issawi is currently being held, and both his uncle and brother were present at the signing, Bolous said.


Palestinian prisoner Samer Issawi to be released

WEST BANK, 23 Apr 2013 - Palestinian Prisoner Samer Issawi who has been on hunger strike for eight month is to be early released from Israeli jail.

The hunger strike by Samer al-Issawi, 32, from a suburb of al-Quds (Jerusalem), had stoked weeks of street protests and concerns by the Zionist entity  that his death might lead to mass unrest, especially after his health was repeatedly deteriorated.


Issawi calls for 'rage and solidarity' on Prisoners Day

RAMALLAH, 17 Apr 2013 - Long-term hunger striker Samer Issawi on Wednesday called for "rage and solidarity" to mark Palestinian Prisoners Day.

"Greetings to all without exception. I urge all the noble people of our Arab and Muslim nation as well as the free people of the world to turn April 17, 2013 into a day of rage and solidarity with Palestinian prisoners all over the world," Issawi wrote in a letter sent through his lawyer from his hospital bed.


Abbas to visit Turkey on Saturday

RAMALLAH, 17 Apr 2013 (AFP) - President Mahmoud Abbas is to visit Turkey at the weekend for talks with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a Palestinian official said Wednesday.

Abbas will also meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during the Saturday-Sunday trip, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Erdogan on Sunday announced his intention to visit the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip next month, after a trip to the United States.


Palestinian inmates stage hunger strike to mark Prisoner Day

WEST BANK, 17 Apr 2013 - Thousands of Palestinian inmates in Israeli jails have staged a one-day hunger strike to mark Prisoner Day.

An Israeli prison official said some 3,000 Palestinian prisoners refused to have their food to protest against their detention on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, people across the occupied Palestinian lands also staged demonstrations to voice their solidarity with those held in the Israeli regime’s custody.
